Articles and Statement of Faith

We, the members of Colonial Bible Church , do hereby acknowledge, believe, declare and defend the following truths as unconditional, unchanging and unyielding, based soley upon the inspired, infallible Holy Scriptures:

Section 1: The Holy Scriptures: as the inspired, inerrant, infallible Word of the Living God, consisting of both the Old and New Testaments.  Therefore, because each Word of Scripture has been breathed by God Himself, they are in all parts wholly without any trace of error and all together sufficient in themselves as our only, infallible and authoritative rule of faith and practice.  Furthermore, we do hereby testify that the Holy Scriptures are without any contradictions to themselves in any part or whole, and as believing such, do also hold that both Old and New Testaments hold equally and invaluable truths for believers today.  Because of the equality of both portions of Scripture, we commit ourselves to the balanced teaching and preaching of both Old and New Testaments, never preaching and teaching one to the exclusion of the other.  Heretofore, the stance of Colonial Bible Church is, and shall be forever be, “Sola Scriptura” (Scripture Alone_ as our basis for all matters, regardless of past tradition, personal preference, denominational dogma, or current trends in church doctrine, practice and counsel, because, “ All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable”, (II Tim. 3:16) and that in Them is contained, “all things that pertain unto life and godliness” (II Pet. 1:3)

Section 2: The One True God:  who is the Almighty, All Powerful, Creator God of the universe.  He is Jehovah, Yaweh God, intelligent, sovereign, spiritual and personal in His Being;  He is perfect in all aspects, infinite in all qualities, attributes, and character, eternal in His existence before the foundation of the world, and eternal after the world shall by His sovereign decree cease to exist;  He is above all, and not to be compared to any because He is supremely holiness and love, wisdom and power, justice and mercy; although a personal God, He is absolutely and without compromise, separate from, and higher than the world and its sinful curse as the Creator, Upholder, and Sustainer of all things.  He alone is the One, True living God, yet shrouded by mystery, in that He is perfect in unity and yet revealed as Father, Son , and Holy Spirit, three distinct persons without division of nature, essence of being, and each having a distinct ministry in God’s relation to His creation and His people.  As the only, One, True and Living God, He is in Himself all things and as such is called by many, noble, perfect and Holy names of which He alone is worthy;  He is Elohim, Adonai, Yaweh, Jehovah-Jireh, Jehovah-Nissi, Jehovah-Rapha, Jehovah-Shiloam;  In all things our God alone is supremely perfect, a most pure spirit, invisible, without body, parts or passions, most immutable, most absolute, most wise, most free, most holy, most sovereign, working all things to the counsel of His most Holy and Righteously angry toward sin, and yet loving, longsuffering, abounding in goodness and truth, willing to forgive transgressions against Himself and His Holy Law;  above all God is Holy,  while loving sinners,  hating all sing and who will, by no means, clear the guilty apart from the Sovereign plan of Salvation.

Section 3:  The Lord Jesus Christ:  who is the sinless, Incarnate Son of God, the second Person of the Triune God, the Eternal Word and Only Begotten Son  that without any change or compromise to and in His Divine Person, became man by miracle of the Virgin Birth; and thus free from the curse of sin through the corrupt seed of Adam, to continue as both completely God and completely man, on Person with two distinct natures; that as man He was tempted in all points, and as God remained completely sinless so as to become, by the Sovereign Decree of God the Father from eternity past, the sinless sacrifice as the second Adam to redeem fallen  man from the curse of sin and the eternal judgment of hell and eternal separation from God;  therefore the Law was completed and the righteous, holy anger of Almighty God satisfied by the Final Offering up of God’s Perfect Lamb;  He without one thought of Himself, humbled Himself to become that final sacrifice for sin forever, by the shedding of His own blood;  thus in effect He is now both the High Priest of all high priests, Prophet of all prophets, King of all kings and Only Mediator by which every man has access into the presence of Almighty God, only as he is found in the position of justification having the Righteousness of Jesus Christ and not His own, by God-given, faith and repentance alone, having had the grace and mercy of Almighty God applied by the Holy Spirit, through the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ alone upon Calvary.

Section 4:  The Holy Spirit:  the third Person of the Trinity, and the Divine Agent of Almighty God in nature, revelation, and redemption; convicting the world and those in the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment both now and future;  in God’s Sovereign plan of redemption, regenerating, indwelling, sealing, and anointing all, who by God’s Sovereign grace and mercy are drawn to salvation through Christ;  that He further empowers, guides into all truth, teaches, sanctifies, and fills the believer upon daily surrender to His control;  that it is He who brings comfort in sorrow, hope in despair, and victory in all aspects of life;  that He is the source of fruit in the life of a true believer, who is surrendered to God, and thereby signifies by the presence of that fruit, the genuine profession of the believer.

Section 5:  All Men By Nature and By Choice Are Totally Depraved, Sinful and Lost:  man in the beginning was created directly by God, in the express image and likeness of His Holy person;  and that by personal choice and disobedience to the direct, revealed command of God, man turned His back upon fellowship and sinless relationship with God to a state of total and complete depravity in body, soul, and spirit;  furthermore, since the time of the fall, the sinful and depraved nature of man has been passed through the seed of the man to all generations thereafter;  because of the sinful nature of man in both his nature  and practice, we are all born under the curse and effects of sin, born under the judgment and wrath of Almighty God, and totally separated from the family and fellowship of God;  therefore, man is completely “dead in his trespasses and sins”, and totally helpless and hopeless for salvation in and of himself;  furthermore, even the desire for salvation and reconciliation to God must be found outside of himself, as the state of his depraved nature would prevent even the desire for such righteousness and fellowship with an infinitely Holy God.

Section 6:  Salvation is by the Sovereign Grace and Mercy of God Alone, Through Faith in Jesus Christ:  that salvation is a free gift, to those whom Almighty God from eternity past in His Divine mercy and grace, sovereignly draws to Himself, neither merited, nor secured in any part or whole, by any virtue or work of man, but received only through God-given faith and repentance in and through the Lord Jesus Christ alone, in whom all true believers have a present possession the gift of eternal life, the perfect righteousness of Jesus Christ, sonship by Divine adoption into the family of God, deliverance and security from the condemnation of sin once confessed, and every spiritual resource needed for life and godliness, and the divine guarantee that they shall never perish or be removed from the hand of Almighty God;  that this salvation affects the whole man in both thoughts and actions;  that apart from Christ there is no hope or possibility for the drawing to, convincing of, need for, or finished work of salvation.

Section 7:  Righteous Living and Godly Words:  not as a means of salvation in any sense,  but as its proper evidence and fruit;  and therefore, as Christians we should seek to obey the Word of our Lord and Master (of which He must, of necessity, be both in the life of the true believer, as the Holy Spirit, through Scripture, reveals to Him areas in need of repentance and Spirit-filled change), seek the things which are above, walk as Christ walked, accept as our solemn responsibility the duty and privilege of bearing out the Gospel both in proclamation and in power of life through consecrated living that is different and distinctly apart from the world to that world which is lost and dying without the blessed hope of salvation through Christ alone; remembering that the victorious and fruitful Christian life is possible only for those, who in gratitude for the infinite and undeserved mercies of God, have presented themselves wholly to Christ and have purposed above all things to be Christ like.  Furthermore, it is our solemn belief that the true believer will persevere in all things, never turning themselves from Christ and back to worldly living without the chastening hand of the Lord for indefinite amounts of time, in which they have no fruit, desire, submission or resemblance to Biblical teaching of the character and lifestyle of one who has genuinely been born again and indwelt by the Spirit of Almighty God.  It is our belief that salvation is not merely profession, but rather is demonstrated by complete change through conversion.  For this reason we oppose all practices which detract from, distract from and pollute a spiritual life.

Section 8:  The Existence of Satan:  who originally was created a holy and perfect being, but through pride and wicked ambition reveled against God, thus becoming utterly depraved in character and in nature, the great adversary of God and His people, lead of all other evil angels and wicked spirits, the deceiver and god of this present world;  that his powers are vast, but strictly limited by the permissive will of God who overrules all his wicked devices for good; that he was defeated and judged at the cross, and therefore his final doom, although not yet a reality, is certain;  that we are able to resist and overcome him only in the armor of God, by the blood of the Lamb and through the power of the Spirit.

Section 9:  The Second Coming of Christ:  that His coming in the air to rapture His church, which is our blessed hope, is always imminent;  that when he was first by resurrection of the dead, will translate the living, removing them from the earth with His waiting saints.  The Second Coming is distinct from the rapture mentioned above, in that Christ will descend with His saints to set up an earthly reign for a literal thousand years over all nations of the earth.

Section 10:  Future, Life, Bodily Resurrection and Eternal Judgment:  that that spirits of the saved at death go immediately to be with Christ in Heaven, that their works and unconfessed sin shall be brought before the Judgment Seat of Christ for the determination of rewards or loss of rewards, which will take place at the time when Christ comes for his own;  that the spirits of the unsaved at death descend immediately into Hell where they are kept under punishment until the final day of judgment, at which time their bodies shall be raised from the grave, that they shall be judged and cast into the Lake of Fire, the place of final and everlasting punishment.

Section 11:  The Priesthood of All Believers:  that Christ is our Great High Priest and because of His complete redemptive work that has satisfied the righteousness and holiness of God the Father, through Him every believer has direct access to the presence of Almighty God without the need for intercession of a human priest; that the believer has the right and responsibility to personally study and interpret the Scriptures under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Section 12:  The Importance of the Local Church:  that a New Testament church is a local assembly of born-again, baptized believers, united in organization to practice New Testament ordinances: to meet together for worship, prayer, fellowship, teaching, equipping, strengthening, if necessary, discipline, accountability, and a united testimony;  and to actively engage in carrying out the Great Commission;  furthermore, it is our belief that each New Testament church is free to govern itself without ecclesiastical interference and should cooperate with other New Testament churches of like faith and practice, as the Holy Spirit leads;  that it is responsible to follow the pattern of the New Testament church in Scripture, as opposed to man made, or institutional traditions, and is directly accountable to Almighty God, who is the Creator and Designer of both the Church and its redemption.

Section 13:  The Two Ordinances Given to the Local Church are Baptism and the Lord’s Supper:  that baptism is by immersion of believers, thus portraying the Lord’s death, burial and resurrection;  that the Lord’s Supper, or Lord’s Table, is the partaking of the bread and cup by the believer as a continuing memorial of the broken body and shed blood of Christ;  furthermore, it is recognized by this church that in order for anything to be considered an ordinance, it must meet the following test of orthodoxy; 1)  the act must have been demonstrated by Christ during His earthly ministry;  2)  the act must be commanded by Christ in the New Testament;  3)  the act must have been continued to be practiced and demonstrated by those believers in the early church.

Section 14:  Separation From Apostasy:  collaboration or participation with all forms of cults, the occult, modernism (as defined by the truest sense of the word, i.e. denial of the inerrancy of Scripture), and any form of, so called, “Christianity” which in any way detracts from the Holiness, or Glory of Almighty God, or His Inspired Word, whether in the National Council of Churches, or otherwise is wrong and demands separation on our part.

Section 15:  A Literal Creation:  by the spoken Word of Almighty God as the basis from which all things have, do, or ever will exist.  That the God created the universe and all that is found therein, as we see them now, ex nihilo, of nothing; that all things were created by God in six literal, twenty-four hour day periods, and on the seventh was created a day of rest; that God did speak the worlds into existence.  We, therefore, deny the Theistic in nature; we do also now set forth, as a pledge, to defend these truths as the foundational truths of Scripture, and that to deny or fail to defend these truths is to deny the Holy Scriptures given by Almighty God.
